Health

The health and temperament of Rhodesian Ridgeback is of the utmost importance to Rhodesian Ridgeback breeders that follow the Code of Ethics set forth by the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club. If you are looking for a Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy please choose from that list of breeders, selecting from breeders all across America. Please choose carefully, research the line and don't ever be afraid to ask them questions - they will be asking you as well!

Over-all the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a healthy breed with a moderate life span. The breed is relatively new to America and the medical technologies available to Rhodesian Ridgebacks breeders is bringing good health to all time high. The breeders have all but eliminated hip dysplasia. Dedicated health testing on the breeding stock will ensure a strong breeding line.

In the Rhodesian Ridgeback breeders Code of Ethics, it requires the breeding pair be clear of hip and elbow dysplasia. The COE goes on to highly recommend that the breeder test and pass for health disorders such as Thyroid panel, a cardiac certificate has been issued as well as passing a BAER hearing test.
