Lela

Rest In Peace

Ch. Assegai Midknight Sun, CGC, TD

Our dear sweet Lela, our first Ridgeback. My shadow, my sons baby sitter, my husbands fishing and hunting partner. The one that started it all. Officially known as Champion Assegai Midknight Sun. Lela is by Champion Calico Ridge the Seventh Knight and out of Assegai Stylish Move.

Shortcut
to pedigree.

Lela, now that I have learned more about this breed, is the epitome of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. Loyal, fierce, caring. If you meet her you will want a Ridgeback. Lela is easy to train, even at seven years old. As long as food is involved she’ll do anything! She was the greater at my dog daycare. Teaching puppies and adults, of all breeds, how to properly great each other and play, and, of course, when she was done playing.

Lela’s name was picked through many hours of studying the Shona language. One of those was the color Purple. Now (2020), it means “Black Beauty”.

Lela has participated in Lure Coursing, she got us hooked in that sport. She finished her AKC championship with ease. Her canine good citizenship was passed with flying colors. We had no problem passing Lela in the Therapy dog test. She is dignified and confident, a true
breed representative at events or just walking down the street.

AKC Titles earned:

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

Conformation Champion (CH)

Conformation Grand Championship points earned
3 majors and a 8 single points & over 3 Champions of record.

We started lure coursing with ASFA and she is fast! Now a days, AKC coursing has been available but Lela is wise to the game. Her
first AKC runs netted 1 qualifying score towards her Senior Coursing(SC) title at 7 years old- still wicked fast and the biggest cheater on the field!

Hopefully You have seen her in Willow Creeks (’08 & ’11) Rhodesian Ridgeback breed Calendars. I could go on bragging about my Lela, but instead I will just give her a hug and be grateful she still bounces around in circles for her food!
